Setting: The world of Mobius is a vibrant planet, host to wide ranges of lands, kingdoms and environments, as well as parallel universes, pocket realities and similiar metaphysical curiosities. From the floating Angel Island, to the dusty and treacherous Downunda, to the sprawling metal city of Robotropolis, the regions are as varied as the inhabitants themselves. The most common species are known collectively as Mobians, sentient anthropomorphic people that mirror many of our world's animal species, such as hedgehogs, echidnas, foxes, rabbits, bats, chameleons, and many more. Though not as plentiful, there are also humans on this world, though they are instead referred to a Overlanders.

Each region has its own threats and power struggles, from the Iron Queen of the eastern lands to the expanding robotic empire of Dr. Eggman. Amongst this rogue's gallery is Ixis Naugus himself.

Ixis Naugus' genesis and history is as unusual as he is. In a rivalry between three elemental wizards of the Order Ixis, their escalating magical feud ended with the trio destroyed and their essence fused into a single being. This being was Naugus. He came into being unaware of the circumstances of his 'birth' but possessing all the formidable elemental magicks of his three forefathers. Naugus soon found his way to the Kingdom of Acorn, a thriving Mobian monarchy, and presented himself to the royal family, offering his services as their court mage.

While there, amidst schemes to usurp any threats to his position and relevance, he also cultivated an ominous pocket dimension called the Zone of Silence. When massive global war broke out, Naugus escaped to this zone, deciding he would come back later and lay claim to whatever was left of the kingdom.

In the course of the war, the rift to the Zone of Silence was discovered by members of the now-traitorous court, who quickly put it to use for exile. The dimension was true to its name; the vacuum of noise coupled with unstable terrain and unforgiving environment would drive any inhabitant mad in short order, if not outright kill them. Fresh exiles eventually realized this land had a familiar overlord; Ixis Naugus, as its creator, found the Zone to his benefit, the unpredictable properties bolstering his magical abilities to the point of demi-godhood. In his time there, he also mastered a new element unique to this dimension, gaining the power to transform things into crystal. Any new exiles there, if they wished to keep their sanity and survive, found it in their best interest to enter a contract of knighthood and fealty to the mage. In exchange, he granted them the power to change from crystal and back, the properties of it giving them the hardiness needed to thrive in the Zone of Silence.

Among the exiles was King Acorn himself, Naugus' former ruler. Delighted at this turn of events, the wizard was quick to offer him his magical protection in exchange for his fealty. The king agreed and in doing so, deferred the Kingdom of Acorn to Naugus whenever he so chose to return. Determined to claim the throne that was now questionably but justifiably his, Naugus' sole motivation was to indeed take his place as king back in his native realm.

Since the traitorous court members took to using the Zone of Silence as a dumping ground for undesirables, however, they made the process of return near impossible, even for one such as Naugus. Time and time again, he'd manage to tear back through reality and attempt his coup, and each time end up banished once more. It was only when the children of one of his now-deceased servants used a royal artifact to undo the zone's seal that he was able to escape for good.

Things took an unexpected detour when another would-be conqueror and demi-god, Mammoth Mogul, revealed himself to be the founder of Naugus' Ixis Order. The mage swore obedience to his superior but shortly came to regret that decision; when the pair were captured by the infamous Dr. Eggman, Mogul used Naugus' mind and soul to shield himself from the degenerative effects of their prison. As a result, when they were freed, Naugus was reduced to little more than a drooling, feral animal. Rather than put an effort into restoring his mental state, Mogul kept the former wizard around as a gruesome pet.

He only regained sentience and questionable sanity when Naugus' apprentice discovered his state and presented him with a potent gem, a chaos emerald. The surge of power restored Naugus' mind as well as his magicks, and he set forth once more to claim his throne. And this time, at long last, he was successful! Managing to win the trust of the kingdom's population, his crowning was unanimously called for. But his victory was followed shortly by unprecedented turmoil; the aforementioned Dr. Eggman unleashed a global weapon that essentially rewrote reality, the Genesis Wave.

The weapon was fired, the world went white, and this is where Naugus would soon find himself waking up in an entirely new world...

Personality: Ixis Naugus is greedy and conniving, thirsty for power and prestige above all things. While he's certainly crafty and desperately clever, he can be prone to leaping without looking and not planning things out well enough in advance. Boisterous and temperamental, he tends to conduct himself bluntly and fearlessly to those around him, helped along handily by his egotistical streak. (Said streak also contributes to his lack of foresight at times; he's just that self-assured his abilities will see him through, why bother making plans?)

Naugus is also deeply vengeful, not forgetting any offense or defeat and always determined to pay back in full, no matter how long it takes. In other words, a grudge is something he never takes lightly.

It's rare that he does anything to no benefit of his own, since furthering his power or influence is his primary goal in all things. It's not to say he can't be altruistic or is completely heartless; but odds are he's doing it because it'll make him look good or is just showing off. It's also to this end that he can be manipulative when the need strikes him, either by conventional or magical means.

He's fiercely independent, preferring to stand alone for any issue or trial. He will avoid asking for help even to his detriment, partly out of pride and part out of distrust. For him, having underlings and apprentices is one thing; having to confess weakness and/or struggle is quite another. It is a sign of being completely out of his element or simply run ragged if he ever does admit needing help. If/when he makes any acquaintances, or god forbid, friends, it will likely fall to them to insist on helping him when he needs it because he often can’t bring himself to ask.

He is not impossible to rattle either. Whatever traumatic alternate reality he saw at the first activation of the Genesis Wave (the same canon point he’s being drawn from), it rendered Naugus catatonic. Curled in the fetal position, he softly babbled to himself about a white light and not knowing where he had been. From there, the event triggered a psychological fissure in him that left his body also unstable, and the mage did everything in his power to hide his maladies from both the public and his apprentice lest he be viewed as weak.

Appearance: His odd heritage is apparent in his hodge-podge appearances. Naugus possesses light brown skin and a single, ivory horn on his head between two wide bat-like ears. Beneath a mouthful of sharp teeth, Naugus has a long white beard that reaches past his belt. His build is remarkably well-muscled for someone of his presumed age, though he's a little on the short side. He dresses primarily in purple and black, favours long, swooping, pop-collared capes and is often carrying a scepter tipped with a faceted violet gem. Both hands are gloved despite the left being a crab-like claw. A long, heavy tail drags behind him. A picture can be seen on his profile.

His unique hybrid physiology gives him a few physical strengths as well. His body is hardy and sturdy, well-muscled along with a crustacean-esque claw with a powerful grip. His ears are as fine-tuned as his bat progenitor's, along with better-than-average night vision.

His voice sounds a good deal like this audio clip from an unrelated video game.

Abilities: As an extremely accomplished wizard, Naugus has a great deal of abilities at his disposal. First and greatest of these is his elemental mastery. He is able to harness, control, transform or even change into any of the four elements; fire, water, earth and/or air. Examples of these include shooting weaponized bolts of all four, causing earthquakes, tremorsense, conjuring rain and snowstorms, flying, creating vacuums/draining breath from lungs so his victims asphyxiate, transforming into any of the four for escape purposes, just to list some of his more frequent uses of it.

He has the ability to cast illusions and communication through any of the four elements, though it has to be a channeled spell to maintain either. Examples of this would be a body double made of air, or speaking to someone through the fire in their fireplace.

He also has control of a fifth 'element', crystallization. So long as he has his scepter, he can turn any (non-magic immune) inorganic material into green crystal and back again. He can do the same to living things, but only if he has entered a contract with the subject. Organic material turned to crystal is nearly indestructible and does not experience fatigue, nor require oxygen, food, water or sleep.

Tying in with contracted persons, Ixis Naugus can subject such a being to possession. This only qualifies for those who have made a binding deal or contract with him. Distance or even different dimensions doesn't seem to hinder this ability. The possessed target's own mind goes into dormancy and Naugus assumes full control of their body. His own physical form turns to dark vapour and inhabits the host in the process of possession.

A more subtle power of Naugus' is the ability to manipulate negative emotions. Provided any such feelings are already present in anything ranging from a single person to an entire city, he can amplify them and thus spur victims into action they might not have normally considered. Worry become fear, anger becomes rage, unhappiness becomes sorrow, unease becomes panic.

Finally, he has the power to shadowmeld. The wizard can slip into any cast shadow and emerge from another one. This is mostly used for travel and sneaking purposes.

While the elemental abilities may strike one as a more natural vocation, most of his crafts strongly keen of dark magicks to those who can sense these manner of things. Holy/light artifacts make him uneasy, if not outright bring him discomfort or pain.

Inventory: Naugus will arrive with little more than the clothes on his back. His wardrobe consists of shirt, pants, belt, gloves, boots, cape. He also has a metal staff topped with a purple chaos emerald.

Third Person:

Fire.

Air.

Water.

Earth.

The elemental mote morphs from one to the next, the transformation prompted by little more than a blink from the mage. Chin resting on his forearm, Naugus sits at the table, watching the mote go from a craggy pebble to a wisp of air. Another blink and it solidifies into a globule of suspended water. His expression is one of thoughtful boredom.

So many think the elements are exclusive; stand-alone entities that are in opposition of the others. Hardly true. They are linked like a chain, one bleeding into the next, traces of each found in the rest. Once that trace is found, they become mutable. Once they are mutable, you are in control.

Naugus blinks again. The water wicks away from a forming inner glint, fire licking its way outwards until its all that remains.

People and societies aren’t much different from the elements. Everything is linked intrinsically. Actions from even the lowest levels, on the smallest scales, can carry vibrations and outcomes to the highest tiers. One can start most anywhere, construct your web accordingly, and you’ll soon find that trace that will lead you upwards to power.

The glow of the mote’s flames has attracted the attention of a moth. Naugus’ eyes dart to its wobbly flight before one finger flicks in its direction. With that simple gesture, the fire leaps onto the insect and immediately sets it alight. The wizard grins to himself as it falls to the table, charred and smoking.

someone plese explain how these buttons are[practicl for siomeone with uust one hand//?

[It’s a few moments after the text is received that a video entry pops up instead. Naugus’ scowling face takes up most of the screen, as he appears to be leaning close and examining it. He seems to not be aware the video feed is already live and functional. A fingertip taps at the glass before he finally sits back to a more reasonable distance. The wizard clears his throat, still scowling.]

I suppose this will have to suffice for now. But really, whoever is behind these planks with lettered buttons on them CLEARLY did not account for something like this.

[Naugus lifts his left hand to reveal his crab-like claw. He snaps it twice for illustrative emphasis.]

REVISIONS/CLARIFICATIONS

IXIS HISTORY: The Order of Ixis is an ancient organization of sorcerers, founded nearly ten thousand years in Mobius’ past by one being known as Mammoth Mogul. An ancient creature from Mobius’ primordial era, his immortality credited to his serendipitous discovery of a chaos emerald, Mogul began with using his power to hold sway over the rest of the developing society around him. When he was dethroned for lack of understanding his own abilities and potential, he took to learning more about the gem that was now a part of him. As he gathered research, others were soon drawn to him, eager for power and enlightenment, using Mogul’s research to further develop what became known as Ixis magicks, a bending of natural elements to ones own will and designs.

The Order would be wiped out in the coming centuries, however, in a clash that came to be known as the Forgotten War, so called due to it destroying what little record-keeping and writing there was at the time. The war came about due to the Order vying for world domination and their efforts being beaten back by the Knights of Albion, a nation of people who were rapidly advancing technologically past all the other races.

In the end, only shreds of the Order were left, Mogul among them. He would abandon it to both lick his wounds and make fresh plans divorced of Ixis magicks. It wouldn’t be until several centuries later that three wizards would be making efforts to both reclaim lost power and preserve what little knowledge of the Order was left.

These three were named Nusgau, Agunus and Suguna.

Working in secret, living in underground caverns, the trio of mages spent their time plumbing the past for forgotten knowledge and secrets, honing their respective magical abilities. Each of them was a master of a single element native to them, and each taught the other two their magicks. Nusgau, a bat, was master of air magic. Agunus, a rhinoceros, held sway over earth. And Suguna, a lobster, was an accomplished water mage. The only element outside their reach was that of fire, and the three finally agreed that they would together seek out control of it by attempting to harness the sun.

The trek there was long, spanning earth, sea and air, the trio using their Ixis abilities to traverse each terrain. But each member had a secret: each one hid away a small amount of their elemental powers to keep to themselves, giving them an edge over their contemporaries in their respective realm. Agunus crossed the earthen plains faster than the other two, Suguna surged through the water past his companions, and Nusgau soared faster and higher once they took to the sky. Realizing they had all had selfishly betrayed each other, they fell into the sun together, angrily battling one another to the very end.

That night, a comet streaked the sky and crashed into the secret caves that once housed the Order of Ixis. Amidst the smoke and the rubble, a bizarre figure lay breathing. The remains of the Order had their bodies, spirits and abilities alike fused into one being, now known as Ixis Naugus.

CANON RELATIONS: Naugus’ relation with the primary hero of Mobius, Sonic the Hedgehog, is one of pure antagonism. For each time that Naugus has attempted to free himself from his Zone of Silence and claim the throne, Sonic has been the primary figure in defeating and banishing him once more. At one point, Naugus managed to free himself and fled immediately to avoid being exiled, soon attempting a plot that involved possessing and manipulating the current King of Acorn, King Maximilian. With the primary threat of Dr. Robotnik at last defeated, Sonic and his best friend Miles "Tails" Prower were free to chase down the wizard to bring him to justice.

Their pursuit ended in the arctic Southern Tundra (coincidentally one of the primary staging grounds of the Order Ixis and Albion’s Knight’s war), where Sonic and Tails met a diminutive Overlander named Nate Morgan living in one of the castles left from the Order’s occupation. It was revealed in due time that this location and this man was Naugus’ final destination; the pair used to be members of the Acorn royal court together, Naugus as the royal wizard and Morgan as the scientific adviser. Morgan’s current self-exile was due to the mage’s meddling, in fact; together with the court’s warlord, Naugus turned the monarchy against the old scientist using trickery and Mobians’ innate xenophobia against Overlanders. He did this because he feared Nate Morgan's technology would render his magical skills obsolete, or at the very least overshadow him. Only now was Naugus seeking Morgan out again to obtain a magical forge he’d invented, intent on using it to bolster his arcane abilities and expand his Zone of Silence into the Prime realm where his power would become unstoppable. But Naugus was foiled and banished once again to his pocket dimension by the combined efforts of Morgan, Sonic and Tails.

Other notable relations and definitions within his canon are as follows:

Dr. Robotnik/Eggman: They are bitter enemies, with Robotnik being openly afraid of Naugus’ power and thirst for vengeance, viewing him as a clear and present threat. They are at odds due to both being would-be-conquerors, Robotnik’s own designs for global domination flying in the face of Naugus’ designs on the Acorn monarchy. There has even been instances of Sonic and Naugus coming to a ceasefire to deal with the mutual threat that is the Doctor. There is no love lost between these two villains and Naugus’ own distaste for robotics and technology stem in part from this man.

King Maximilian Acorn: The ruling king of the Kingdom Acorn. When Naugus enlisted his services as the court mage, Maximilian was still just a child. By the time Max’s father Frederick stepped down and Max took the throne, Naugus was still serving his role of magic and guidance dutifully. It was only after Robotnik rose to power and overthrew the Kingdom that things began to move in a different direction. The defeated king was thrown into exile, trapped in the Zone of Silence by Robotnik and his lackeys, where Ixis Naugus was quick to find him. When the king swore fealty to the wizard to gain his protective crystal magicks from the Zone’s harsh environment, he surrendered his claim to the throne as well.

Geoffrey St. John: A secret agent of the Kingdom of Acorn, who always seemed one step ahead of Sonic’s Freedom Fighters and always operated on a need-to-know basis. He swore loyalty to the king and said all his actions were towards his restoration. It was years before all cards were on the table and Geoffrey revealed that when he referred to the king, he did not speak of King Maximilian. Rather, he was loyal only to Ixis Naugus, having been his apprentice from a young age. When Geoffrey’s father, another secret service agent, fell in the line of duty, the young Mobian was left with no one and nowhere to turn. Amongst his father’s belongings, he found an Ixian amulet that was linked to the now-exiled Naugus. Speaking words of comfort in the face of his loss, Naugus promised he would change things for the boy. He would become king and he would set the kingdom right again, becoming one that would not tolerate the presence of Overlanders so that battles like the one that claimed Geoff’s father would never happen again. Through the amulet, the two kept in contact and Naugus trained the young boy in the ways of Ixis magic. (Geoffrey only managed to ever get limited control over air, the rest of the elements proving to be too taxing or elusive.)

Warlord Kodos, Uma Arachnis, Feist: Three of Naugus' most powerful and trusted minions. Kodos had been exiled to the Zone of Silence by Robotnik; the other two's stories as to how they got there are unknown. There are even rumours that Feist is a native of the realm somehow. Both Kodos and Uma are now deceased. Feist still resides in the Zone of Silence, having claimed himself the master of it now in Naugus' absence.

Mammoth Mogul: A demi-god from prehistoric times, rendered immortal by a chaos emerald fused into his chest. Ten thousand years ago, he founded the Ixis Order and led an army of elite wizards in an attempt at global domination. Naugus believed himself the last of his caste for years until Mammoth revealed his role in the creation of Ixis magicks to begin with. Naugus was quick to defer to him, swearing loyalty out of respect. However, when the pair were captured by Eggman, Mogul did not hesitate to use Naugus’ mind and soul as a shield from their prison’s degenerative effects. The ordeal left Naugus feral and mindless, little more than a snarling, drooling beast. When Geoffrey arrived on the scene and helped restore Naugus’ sentience and sanity, the mage angrily parted ways with Mogul, promising revenge for the humiliating and painful affair he was put through.

Chaos Emeralds: Artifacts of extreme power. Coming from a time beyond memory, these gems are powerhouses of uninhibited energy. Highly sought after by all factions, good and evil, for their limitless potential, chaos emeralds are a major driving force of Mobius and the center of countless conflicts. A single one can bolster a being’s natural abilities and powers to far greater heights, or unlock superhuman abilities previously unforeseen. Naugus is in possession of a purple one (despite being called emeralds, they range in colours beyond just green) since Geoffrey used it to restore his shattered mind.

The Kingdom of Acorn: The largest monarchy and kingdom of Mobians, lasting for centuries and ruled by the Acorn family. It was founded by King Alexander, one of the first Mobians who presented the idea of all Mobians, regardless of species, work together and build a nation of their own. Even when the kingdom was besieged by the likes of Robotnik and other megalomaniacs, it has endured, largely in part by the ruling princess heading the freedom fighting efforts that would topple every threat from the bottom up. It is a well-respected and notable power on Mobius, even as times change and the power is beginning to shift towards being a republic, a people-elected council deciding on matters alongside the acting king.
